Vancouver (British Columbia – Two days before the Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette was here to compete on home soil and is struggling to get a medal, with the Olympic Games a tragic turn. And her mother, Teresa, died on Sunday in a hospital here, the President said Benoit Lavoie, Skate Canada. It was 55. the cause of death was not announced.
The skier’s father, Norman Rochette, broke the news to his daughter in the early Sunday morning. While other skiers are exercised in order to compete on the Pacific, and spent two of the morning in the village of athletes, officials said.
Therese Rochette and her husband, Norman had arrived here on Saturday from Montreal to see their daughter compete. Was considered Canada’s best chance for women ice-skating medal since Elizabeth Manley won the silver medal at the Calgary Games in 1988.
Rochette, silver medalist at the world championships in 2009, is still expected to compete on Tuesday in the short program. Long-term program is set for Thursday.
Officials said Rochette will not talk to reporters that the competition had ended.
